I have long been aware to avoid soaps using sodium tallow, which is the ingredients used to make soaps which comes from the rendered fat of animals (which I'm not a fan of being veg). But there has been a lot of controversy over the destruction of rainforests in search of fulfilling the demand of the cosmetic industry for more palm oil (which means fewer rainforests). Leave it to eco-warrrior Lush, who really raised the bar on living green when they heard the warning of Greenpeace that orangutans and other animals were disappearing as fast as the rainforests they called home. In order to find a suitable veg-friendly soap "fat", most companies turned to coconut and palm oil as it's relatively cheap and rivals the soapy qualities of sodium tallow. Now realizing that nothing is as good as it seems (cheap not always meaning good), Lush is one of the first soap cosmetics company to create a palm oil free soap base to keep all the primates happy!!! We really applaud Lush's commitment to the environment (fewer rainforests destroyed to grow new palm plantations) and still maintaining their fabulous eco-edge in the growing "natural" cosmetics industry. I think that this dedication and shift in company thinking is so refreshing, I could even convince my friends who once snuffed at the sight (and smell) of Lush to give them another try. Just maybe ordering online!!!

oh, lovely Lush! :) love the smell of all the soaps together in the shop! my husband only allows 1 soap opened in the house ;)

good to know I'm not alone in my love of Lush or my friends/family's tolerance for over-Lush-ness! they are gorgeous products though (in doses I guess!!!)
